About me

I completed my training as a Solution Focussed Clinical Hypnotherapist with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training in Leeds. CPHT are the gold standard in hypnotherapy training with centres throughout the UK. I am a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapists and the AfSFH.  


I came to hypnotherapy from a background in teaching and inclusion awareness and am also an independent heritage consultant. I have full DBS status,  a diploma in NLP, and carry full insurance underwritten by Axis. 


 I am happy to work with young people from the age of 16 years. If you are a parent seeking help for a child under 16, please get in touch to discuss options. 


The client/therapist relationship is vital to the success of hypnotherapy and there may be times when I feel I cannot help you.  I will always be upfront about this and may be able to refer you to someone who can.

Hypnosis - a natural, tranquil state

Hypnosis or trance simply describes a shift in your conscious awareness. It's a natural and safe state. Most people go in and out of a trance state many times a day -  when driving, reading a good book or even washing the dishes. In this relaxed state, your conscious awareness experience changes much like being in a day-dream. During this time, your unconscious mind is more aware and can focus on helpful suggestions and thoughts.  

You are always in control during hypnosis. You process and decide whether or not information or suggestions are useful. You will not accept suggestions against your wishes and cannot be persuaded to do anything against your will.

Being in a trance is very relaxing. In fact, it's a vital part of human existence– we need times where we can relax, reflect and consolidate information, and utilise different parts of our brains for different activities.

 

Brain power, not mind control

 Solution focussed hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and mental imagery to encourage you to go into a trance state, and this causes a natural shift in our brainwave patterns. Electroencephalography(EEG) allows us to observe shifts in the brain's electrical energy and brainwave patterns. As you are guided into deeper levels of relaxation, the brain demonstrates more alpha and theta wave activity, as you feel calmer and more relaxed but are also able to visualise images and reflect on different ideas that may be useful to you.   This is what makes Solution Focused Hypnotherapy so beneficial, because it combines powerful solution-focused discussions, followed by encouraging a relaxing trance state so that the ideas and solutions discussed can then be explored and utilised by the brain for your benefit.

SS aged 39 years, had had a phobia of snakes since she was six years old. As she was now teaching in Bali, where there are many snakes, this became a problem she could no longer avoid. It was affecting her daily life to the point where even a picture of a snake caused her to freeze in panic. After four sessions, she felt confident to book a trek into the Borneo jungle.
